Project overview
Carlsberg wanted to rethink the reception, restaurant and meeting areas within its UK headquarters, creating a more welcoming and people-focused workplace. Initial Designs developed flexible, multifunctional spaces that encouraged interaction while introducing the company’s identity in a restrained and considered way.

Design story
The brief focused on creating spaces that gave people more reasons to step away from their desks, meet informally and use the workplace in different ways throughout the day.
We introduced a combination of communal seating, informal meeting areas and adaptable zones rather than relying solely on conventional meeting rooms. The restaurant was designed to support daily dining, informal conversations, collaborative work and larger staff gatherings.
Carlsberg’s identity was expressed through selected materials, bespoke details and subtle references to its heritage. The intention was to create a recognisable environment without turning the interior into an overtly branded space.
With the headquarters remaining operational during refurbishment, the design also had to work around staff and a carefully managed construction programme. The completed spaces created a warmer arrival experience and a more flexible setting for interaction across the working day.
