Project overview
The conversion of a former high-street bank into a bar and restaurant required the design to work carefully with the existing structure and the limitations around services. Initial Designs developed an adaptable layout that made the kitchen and bar part of the customer experience while minimising unnecessary alterations.

Design story
The client wanted an informal, relaxed style of service, with the kitchen and bar treated as visible features of the restaurant rather than hidden support spaces.
Their positions were tested against the existing structure, servicing requirements and back-of-house needs. Locating these elements carefully helped preserve flexibility within the customer areas and reduced the extent of structural work required.
The design also looked for opportunities within the building itself. Existing architectural details were retained and exposed where appropriate, while the route through to the rear courtyard became part of the layout and customer journey.
The resulting proposal balanced the character of the former bank with the practical requirements of a contemporary restaurant. Planning information and material specifications were developed to give the client and fit-out team a clear basis for the next stage.
